Electronic invoicing

What is a DTE?

DTE stands for Documento Tributario Electrónico, or electronic tax document. In El Salvador, electronic invoicing turns tax documents such as final-consumer invoices, tax credit vouchers, notes and withholding vouchers into digital files with a technical structure.

For the end user, a DTE may appear as a PDF. For those preparing IVA books and systems such as AIBEX, the key file is the JSON because it contains structured fields that can be read, classified and transformed into IVA books.

DTE fields that matter for IVA books

Although DTE have a broader technical structure, certain fields appear repeatedly in accounting work: DTE type, generation code, control number, issue date, issuer, recipient, amount summary, IVA, withholdings and receipt seal.

Reliable automation is not about guessing from an image. It is about reading JSON, identifying the document type and validating whether it belongs in the selected book.

  • DTE type: identifies an FCF, CCF, note or withholding voucher.
  • Generation code: the document’s unique identifier.
  • Control number: the DTE’s formal reference.
  • Receipt seal: evidence of receipt by Hacienda when applicable.
  • Summary: taxable and exempt amounts, IVA, withholdings and totals.

Common types recognized by AIBEX

AIBEX uses DTE codes to direct each document to the right workflow. This classification prevents files from ending up in the wrong book and reduces corrections at month-end.

Why this changes monthly work

Previously, many books were built by copying fields from PDFs, Excel or downloaded reports. With DTE, preparation can become a review workflow: gather JSON, validate the business and month, review exceptions, export and document.

This does not remove tax responsibility. It does change how time is spent: less repetitive entry, more accounting review and better control of documents received or issued.

How to use DTE JSON in AIBEX

AIBEX is designed around DTE JSON. The PDF is for review; the JSON is for building structured data.

1. Download or gather JSON files

Receive them by email, download them or centralize them by client.

2. Select the correct book

Choose purchases, final-consumer sales, taxpayer sales or IVA withholding.

3. Review the results

AIBEX classifies documents, identifies rejections and prepares the data for validation.

Frequently asked questions

Is DTE the same as electronic invoicing?

A DTE is an electronic tax document. Electronic invoicing is the system or process through which those documents are issued, transmitted and received.

Why do I need JSON if I have the PDF?

The PDF is visual. JSON contains structured data that enables book automation and reduces manual entry.

Does AIBEX issue DTE?

AIBEX already extracts and organizes JSON for IVA books. DTE issuance is a feature in development and must operate with Hacienda validation.
